Elna Contessa 415 Manual
Vacuums - How do you thread an elna contessa 415. I have lost the manual and I don't seem to be able to find one. So if someone - question about Vacuums.
One of my colleagues has an Elna Contessa 400. Elna Contessa's are not exactly my favourite machines but that does have something to do with the fact that ours has a 'pot' metal part, which has disintegrated leaving the machine useless. This one had a seized bobbin-winder and to be honest, I suspected the worst and thought it too, would disintegrate on me. With plenty of oil and a lot of nail bitingly brutal force however, it freed up and is now working fine. Originally my colleague wanted me to sell it and get her another but on my advice decided to keep the Elna when the bobbin-winder was freed. From what I could see this machine had metal cams and gears and was in very good condition, although very dry.
I told her that she would not find a modern machine with either of those attributes. I'm an Australian lady who loves sewing machines, sewing and photography. Many of the sewing machines shown, discussed and used on these pages are from my collection, which is now over 30 machines strong! In my day-to-day life I am a volunteer dogsbody and a student. This blog will focus on all three of my listed interests but there will definitely be off topic things as well!
I will happily answer any sewing machine enquiries that I can, email me. Please do not re-use any of the images shown here without my permission.

Remember to use the Elna 7 hole dished metal bobbins, there are 7 holes on the top, and looks like this Always wind it and insert it into the machine this way. Don't use any other bobbin. Standard needles 130/705H, flat shank to the back. Check out my other tip on bobbin winding too, it is important to keep tension onto the thread spool that you are winding thread off as the machine doesn't tension the thread for you. So you need to apply pressure to the top of the thread spool as you wind off, use the curved handle of your scissors on the top of the spool.
Feel free to connect to me and ask if you have any other questions, I have a Lotus TSP at home and its almost identical to the SP. Happy stitching.
