How To Make Moonshine Using Cracked Corn
Educationally speaking.corn whiskey is not super simple to make. You can take cracked corn and make whiskey, but you have to convert the carbohydrates in the corn to a fermentable sugar in a process called 'mashing'. I will not go into detail here, but will give you the basic steps which you can further research. To make the mash: Grain (corn, wheat, rye, barley.) for the absolute best results, the grain should be 'malted'.
Moonshine A 'genuine' moonshine recipe. The old-fashion way of making corn liquor--with real. First wash your cracked corn really good to get most of the. To make a five gallon mash, you will need five gallons of filtered water; seven pounds of cracked corn; seven pounds of granulated sugar; a tablespoon of yeast. Compared to a cooked mash, this basic recipe does not depend on grains to derive starch. Corn is included mainly for flavor while sugar is necessary to be able to derive alcohol.
Water Yeast - not bread yeast.you at least need a beer yeast capable of producing a high gravity brew. Fermentation: A large 'primary' fermenting vessel, food grade (plastic, stainless.) do not try to ferment in a carboy (water jug) the neck is too narrow, and they are a bear to clean and sterilize properly. (you don't want to make vinegar right?) Fermentation under correct conditions typically takes 5 to 7 days. Distillation: Once you have created a mash, you incorporate the yeast to start the fermentation process, once your mash has been fermented it is ready for the distilling operation. At this time the fermented mash is now called a 'wash'. The wash is added to the still and heated gradually to the correct temperature (at the boiling point of alcohol ideally, but below the boiling point of water, they are quite close) the distillate cycles thru a condensing mechanism, usually a coil immersed in or jacketed by cool water.
From the end of the coil comes the final distillate. Approximately the first 10% is Methanol, which you do not want to drink!!!!! This part is called the 'heads' next comes the body of the distillate, and finally, when most of the alcohol in the wash has been evaporated, come the 'tails'. That should give you enough educational material for you to conduct further research into the process of mashing, fermenting and distilling alcohol. As a final disclaimer, I need to tell you that which you probably already know. Distilling alcohol, even for personal consumption/use, is a violation of Federal law in the United States. Therefore putting anything I have stated into practice is strongly discouraged.
