Next → 's second season originally aired between September 18, 1994 and May 21, 1995, beginning with 'Madame Ex'. The series loosely follows the comic philosophy of writer John Byrne, with Clark Kent as the true personality, and Superman as a secondary disguise. As the show's title suggests, it focuses as much on the relationship between Clark Kent and Lois Lane as on the adventures of Clark's alter-ego. The central characters in season 2 are as /, as, as, as, as, as. Season two dropped the character of and replaced with as Jimmy Olsen. The official reason, according to Landes, was that he looked too similar to Dean Cain (on the DVD commentary for the pilot of Lois & Clark, Dean Cain has admitted that he and Landes looked like they could be related).

The new producer, Robert Singer, planned a stronger focus on 'action'; the show also focused more on the budding romance of Lois and Clark. Season two started out rocky but became a success and garnered higher ratings in its initial airings, ending the season in 58th place. With the help of Dr.
Heller , a plastic surgeon who worked for Lex and she later kills, she creates a duplicate of Lois. Dr Carlin used her books to get the public to hate Superman and turn against him and make Lex Luthor like a hero. The duplicate does things that Lois would never do, like accusing Superman for killing Lex or throwing a tear gas in the newsroom of Daily Planet, to make everyone believe that Lois got crazy. At the same time, Arianna gets hired by Perry on the Daily Planet as a therapist and pushes everyone to believe even more that Lois is not herself and she needs help. Clark decides to help Lois investigate the truth even though he is not sure if he has to believe her when she says that she is fine.
Eventually, they discover the true identity of Arianna as Lex's ex-wife and they reveal the truth but not before Arianna captures Lois and attempts to kill Superman using kryptonite making it look like Lois did it. Lois manages to help Superman and he makes sure that Arianna and the duplicate gets arrested. Gretchen Kelly , who is taking care of Lex's body that was stolen at the end of season one after his death, tells him that Arianna failed but he will always have her. 23 2 'Wall of Sound' September 25, 1994 ( 1994-09-25) 16.8 The nominations for the Kerth Awards are about to be announced and Lois is sure that she will be nominated again since she has been every time for the last three years and won.
When Clark gets nominated instead of her, she gets jealous and insecure, something that affects their investigation about a new villain in town who uses as a weapon. The sound wave puts people to sleep while he is able to rob banks and jewelry stores. Lois and Clark disagree on who the suspect might be, since Lois believes it is Lenny Stoke while Clark believes it is Dr. Derek Camden. The truth is somewhere in between since Stoke used Camden's knowledge to create the device for the sound waves, a device that can also produce a sound that affects Superman, something that makes it difficult for Superman to stop him.
Eventually, Superman stops Stoke and sends him in prison, while Clark wins the Kerth Award. Lois is proud of her partner but she also warns him that the next time he forces her to be his date on a night where he gets awarded she will tear him apart, making both of them laugh. 24 3 'The Source' Tony Blake and Paul Jackson October 2, 1994 ( 1994-10-02) 17.1 After an accident on a fair wheel, a worker of a corporation named Stuart Hofferman comes to Lois saying that this was not an accident since he himself had informed about the problem on the wheel but they ignored him. Lois writes the story and does everything she can to protect her source, even after Eric Thorp (Tim Grimm), the man behind the accident, tries to kill her and forces Stuart to say that he was lying. Perry is forced to kill the story while Stuart, who has been hiding at Clark's place, disappears.
The disappearance looks like Stuart has been murdered and Lois gets suspended since the murder was a result of Stuart providing her information. Clark helps Lois to restore her reputation and they discover that Stuart is not dead but he staged his death along with his best friend Oliver (Jeff Joseph), so people would leave him alone. They find him and convince him to help them expose the truth.
Thorp is arrested and Lois returns to the Daily Planet having restored her reputation. 25 4 'The Prankster' October 9, 1994 ( 1994-10-09) 16.1 A 'secret admirer' starts sending Lois gifts, something that eventually terrifies her when, along with Clark, they discover that behind all these is an, Kyle Griffin , who Lois helped send to prison five years earlier. Griffin, who is also known as the, is now out of jail and is seeking for revenge. Using those pranks, he can terrify Lois while at the same time, he uses them as a distraction to steal a diamond and rob banks. Lois and Clark manage to finally spot him and with the help of Superman, they arrest him sending him back to prison. 26 5 'Church of Metropolis' Robert Singer John McNamara October 23, 1994 ( 1994-10-23) 18.2 Lois and Clark visit her uncle Mike's restaurant in South Metropolis and while they are there, someone tries to set a fire in the restaurant. Clark witness what happens while Superman arrests the man.
Lois and Clark start investigating the case and they discover that a new criminal organization called, buys property in South Metropolis at very low prices. Superman tries to help but after an encounter with Martin Snell , the lawyer of Intergang, he is unable to do anything because of their threats against everyone he loves. He still finds a way to help when Lois gives him the idea to be in South Metropolis undercover, so Intergang will not know that Superman is there. In the meantime Mayson Drake , the prosecuting attorney assigned to the case, shows interest in Clark but she hates Superman. This interest makes Lois jealous of her and she tries to keep Clark away from her, especially when Lois discovers that Mayson's ex boss is Bill Church , a man who she believes is the leader of Intergang but she has no proof.
Eventually, Lois and Clark work with Mayson and they manage to get Snell arrested but the moment he is ready to reveal who is the leader of Intergang, Church blows up the room killing him. 27 6 'Operation Blackout' October 30, 1994 ( 1994-10-30) 15.6 During the demonstration of the army's latest weapon, something seems to go wrong and general Marshall is killed. Lois and Clark investigate the 'accident' and they discover that an old college friend of Lois named Ryan Wiley , who supposedly died a year ago, was present at the demonstration. Lois visits Molly , her best friend from college and ex-girlfriend of Ryan, to ask her about him. Molly is very different as a person now and she is against everything that has to do with technology. When she is asked about Ryan, she insists that all she knows is that he is dead.
In the meantime, a citywide blackout forces the Daily Planet to find a means to publish the paper without the help of modern technology. Lois and Clark discover that Ryan's plan is to high-jack a satellite and blow up an army base. They get to the base where Lois finds Molly tied up in a chair realizing that she was also fooled by Ryan. The two women try to stop the program via the computer but it is impossible to do it. With Superman's help, they stop the satellite and Ryan, along with Colonel Fane who was part of the plan, get arrested while trying to escape. 28 7 'That Old Gang of Mine' Gene Miller and Karen Kavnar November 13, 1994 ( 1994-11-13) 19.8 Perry and Jimmy get car-jacked by (Amy Hathaway and ) and they all believe that the people who did it were just impersonating the two robbers.
When and also appear in Metropolis, things get even more weird and Lois and Clark discover that a scientist named cloned the criminals because he believed he could alter people's personalities. Hamilton is not able to control the criminals anymore, who try to take over Metropolis, and Capone also forces him to recreate his old gang. Lois and Clark go to a club to find out more about the criminals and during a confrontation there, Clyde shoots Clark who has to fake his death so his Superman identity will not revealed. While everyone mourns the loss of Clark, Clark does not know what to do until he reads Hamilton's research and uses it as an excuse to explain how he is alive again. The criminals attack Daily Planet but Superman gets there in time and stops them while the police arrests them. Clark's return makes everyone happy especially Lois who on their way home she decides to express to Clark her real feelings about him only to realize that while she was talking Clark fell asleep and did not hear anything of what she had said. 29 8 'A Bolt From the Blue' Kathy McCormick November 20, 1994 ( 1994-11-20) 20.3 Lois gets some info about Lex being alive and kept in a cemetery and wants to check it with Clark.
At the cemetery, a man named William Wallace Webster Waldecker tries to commit suicide and Superman stops him. The moment though he catches his hand, a lightning strikes him and his powers are copied to Wallace. Gretchen Kelly who keeps Lex's body, witnesses the power exchange and wants to get Superman's powers for herself.
Wallace starts calling himself 'The Resplendant Man' and starts saving people but he charges them for it. Superman tries to talk to him and explain that charging is not how a super hero works but Wallace refuses to listen, while at the same time tries to hide from Lois how Wallace got his powers because then everyone will want to get those powers. In the meantime, Gretchen kidnaps Wallace's sister (and Lois for following and finding where she is hiding) to force Wallace into helping her get Superman's powers. Superman arrives and even though Kelly gets his powers from Wallace, Superman manages to use the stimulation and return the powers from both, Wallace and Gretchen, to him. Lois writes the story but skips the part of how the powers of Superman were copied while Gretchen dressed as a coroner, manages to get Lex's body back from the police when everyone believes he is dead. 30 9 'Season's Greedings' Randall Zisk December 4, 1994 ( 1994-12-04) 19.0 The Winslow Schott gets fired from his job along with his secretary Margaret Duffy.
Deciding to take revenge, he invents a new toy named 'Space Rats' that includes a substance which when someone is sprayed with, it makes adults act like children and children be greedy. Everyone at the Daily Planet is affected, including Clark, and they start fighting over gifts.
Clark realizes that the whole situation has to do with the 'Space Rats' and along with Lois they try to find out who is the creator of the new toys. Their investigation leads them to Schott who gets arrested for his creation but also regrets and makes clear that he cares and loves kids. In the meantime, Superman asks toy store owners to donate toys to the orphanage kids and Lois plans a Christmas dinner for family and friends. All of them though end up having other plans and Lois is alone at her apartment until Clark appears on her door, who canceled his Christmas with his family to be with her.
31 10 'Metallo' James Bagdonas Tony Blake, James Crocker, and Paul Jackson January 1, 1995 ( 1995-01-01) 17.4 Lois' sister Lucy moves back into the town with her new boyfriend Johnny , who Lois does not like and tries to convince Lucy that he is no good for her and using her, leading them to fight. In the meantime, two scientists Rollie and Emmet Vale ( and ) create robots that they use to rob jewelries. After Johnny gets shot by police during a robbery, the two scientists take his head and transform him into a cyborg that is powered by Kryptonite.
Under the name, Johnny uses his new body to steal money from ATMs and also tries to defeat Superman. On their first confrontation, Superman is defeated due to the kryptonite that is hidden into Johnny's body. Superman realizes the existence of the kryptonite and the next time they meet, he knows how to fight Johnny without him getting affected by the kryptonite. Johnny gets defeated while one of the scientists get arrested and the other one runs away with the kryptonite. 32 11 'Chi of Steel' James Hayman Hilary J. Bader January 8, 1995 ( 1995-01-08) 20.0 When the men's club Perry is a member is robbed and his life savings are taken, Lois and Clark begin to investigate to find out what happened.
Their investigation leads them to Chinatown where they find out from Chen Chow , a friend of Clark's, that someone with the same martial arts knowledge has also robbed several times a specific company in Chinatown. The thief seems to act like a modern Robin Hood who steals from the rich and gives to the poor and is also using two bracelets with special power that allow them to use Superman's strength against him and even kill him. When the leader of the mafia finds out about the power of the bracelets, he wants them instead of his money, so he will kill Superman.
Everyone believes that the thief is Chen Chow since his grandfather teaches the martial arts the thief is using and is also the owner of the bracelets. As it is revealed though, the thief is Lin Chow (Leila Lee Olsen) the granddaughter and not Chen Chow. The mafia captures the grandfather, takes the bracelets and asks Lin to bring Superman to them otherwise they will kill her grandfather. Lin manages to teach Superman how to fight against Jzuk-Mao who will be wearing the bracelets, so he will not get killed. Jzuk-Mao is defeated and leader of the mafia is arrested, Superman gets the bracelets and gives them back to grandfather Chow who gives them to Lin because she earned them. 33 12 'The Eyes Have It' Kathy McCormick and Grant Rosenberg January 22, 1995 ( 1995-01-22) 16.7 Dr.
Faraday (Harvey J. Alperin) runs away from Dr. Harry Leit to protect a device he created and can transmit information to someone's brain through a beam of light. Faraday ends up in Lois' apartment and uses the device on her before he gets killed. Lois gets into trans for few minutes and she misses the faces of the two other men coming into her apartment after Faraday.
Lois and Clark try to discover more things around Faraday while Lois can explain things in his research that no one understands. Leit tries to find the device by asking Lois but when Superman comes to save her, Leit uses another device on him causing him blindness. Lois takes Superman to her apartment to take care of him till his sight returns. Leit kidnaps Lois to force her tell him where Faraday's device is and when Superman realizes what Leit is looking for, he goes to Daily Planet to get it before him. Leit arrives there with Lois and while he tries to get Faraday's device, Lois manages to take the antidote for Superman's blindness. Leit gets arrested and everything goes back to normal. In the meantime, everyone believes that Clark has spent a weekend away with Mayson since when she asked him out, everyone thought that Clark accepted her proposal.
But he didn't, Clark is not that guy and were unaware that he spent the whole weekend with Lois while he was blind when he was Superman. At the end of the episode, Lois learns that this was not the case and asks Clark where he has been the last three days but he has no answer. 34 13 'The Phoenix' Philip Sgriccia Tony Blake and Paul Jackson February 12, 1995 ( 1995-02-12) 20.0 Clark finally finds the courage to ask Lois out on a date which she accepts after thinking about it for a while. But their plans are ruined when Dr. Gretchen Kelly brings Lex Luthor back to life.
Lex is determined to get his fortune and Lois back and kill Superman and works with Gretchen and his old servant Nigel to achieve it. When he learns that Rollie Vale (who is in prison following the events on the episode Metallo) has kryptonite in his possession, he visits him in prison and makes a deal with him; his freedom and money in exchange for the kryptonite. Lex manages to break Vale out and he also kidnaps Lois to force her come back to him. Back at Lex's hideout, Lex gives the kryptonite to Nigel to keep it safe, but Nigel betrays Lex by stealing it and shooting a at him before escaping. Gretchen is accidentally killed during a scuffle and an argument with Lex after she pushes Lois into a rat pit.
Superman arrives to save Lois and when Lex realizes that he will be led to jail, he tries to kill himself like he did the last time. This time though, Superman stops him and he ends up behind the bars while Lois and Clark try to reschedule their first date. 35 14 'Top Copy' Randall Zisk John McNamara February 19, 1995 ( 1995-02-19) 19.7 A television news reporter, Diana Stride , wants to discover the true identity of Superman and expose him to the public.
Dean Cain
Her first attempts are not much successful since Clark manages every time to appear in front of her as Superman, before she realizes who he really is. At the same time, Mr. X, a former member of Intergang, is about to testify against Intergang and one of its assassins. As it turns out, the assassin is Diana, who attempts to silence him before he does it. Superman gets into her way and she decides to kill him. She kisses Superman while wearing a kryptonite lipstick, something that makes Superman very sick since the kryptonite enters his body and spreads like a cancer.
Before he is rushed to the hospital, Diana finds out that Clark Kent is Superman and makes a story about it on TV while Superman finds a way to 'kill' the kryptonite that is inside him. Everyone is surprised when they hear the news about Superman's true identity and Clark organizes a press interview to prove that he is not Superman.
With the help of his parents, they create an hologram of Superman that appears during the interview while Clark is also standing there, and Superman explains that Clark is his friend and he helps him by keeping his things at his house. After the press interview, Superman goes on to arrest Diana.
36 15 'Return of the Prankster' Philip Sgriccia Grant Rosenberg February 26, 1995 ( 1995-02-26) 18.9 Kyle Griffin , also known as 'The Prankster', escapes from prison using a new weapon he created that freezes people when a yellow beam of light is flashed into their eyes. Using it, he harasses Lois while at the same time he plans to kidnap the President of the United States who is visiting Metropolis. Lois and Clark, with the help of Dr. Hamilton , they find a way to resist to Griffin's weapon by wearing special eye contacts.
Griffin, thinking that his plans for kidnapping the President go as he planned, he is surprised to find out that his weapon is not longer working on Lois and Superman. Superman destroys his weapon and Griffin is headed back to jail while Lois finally gets the exclusive interview from the President. 37 16 'Lucky Leon' Jim Pohl Chris Ruppenthal March 12, 1995 ( 1995-03-12) 21.0 Lois and Clark try again to have their first date when Jimmy gets arrested for a murder. Perry bails him out and everyone tries to find out who the real murderer is.
In the meantime, Superman is tricked and steals nuclear warheads from the government to give them to terrorists, thinking that he was doing the opposite; returning stolen nuclear warheads to the government. As it is revealed, behind the murder and the stealing, is Jimmy's boss from his second job, Lucky Leon , who is also involved with Intergang.
Superman finds where Lucky Leon is and gets him arrested, returning the nuclear warheads to where they belong. During the episode, Lois and Clark do have their first date and it ends as a success, but Lois tells Clark that she can't see him anymore. The next day, it seems strange between the two, and Clark tries to find out from Lois what he did wrong. Before she can give an answer, Mayson interrupts them and asks Clark to have lunch with her.
After they leave, both Jimmy and Lois get calls with information regarding Lucky Leon; however, they are unaware that Lucky Leon was listening to their conversation the entire time. Lois, Jimmy, and Clark track Lucky Leon to his old factory with the stolen weapons. They also find out that he is working for Intergang, before they can get help they are captured. Clark scares them off by setting off one of the warheads; however it has a back up timer, so Superman he is forced to kick it into the sky, setting it off at a safe distance. Once everyone is safe, he goes after the criminals, and clears Jimmy's name as well.
Also, Superman returns the weapons and isn't clear of all charges. At the end of the episode, they kissed for the first time. While they are kissing, Mayson gets into her car which is rigged with a bomb. Clark hears the bomb and runs to save Mayson but he gets there too late. Before she dies, Mayson sees his Superman costume underneath his clothes and realizes that he is Superman and she also whispers into his ear the word: 'resurrection'. 38 17 'Resurrection' Gene Miller and Karen Kavner March 19, 1995 ( 1995-03-19) 17.8 Lois and Clark investigate the murder of Mayson trying to find out who is behind it, when DEA agent Dan Scardino also arrives in town investigating the same case. Scardino is attracted to Lois, something that makes Clark jealous especially when Lois defends him for his actions. Their investigation leads them to discover that a former scientist of Star Labs, Stanley Gables , developed a pill that makes people look dead for few hours and then they wake up perfectly fine. Gables uses the pill to fake the death of three criminals who are in prison and break them out of there as dead. Gables plan is to release a deadly virus (Virus A) in the city to revenge a mistake that happened while he was working on Star Labs and made him catch the specific virus. Superman manages to stop him before the virus is spread to the whole town and Gables, along with the three criminals who escaped prison, get arrested.
Scardino asks Lois if it would be okay with her to ask her out some time while Clark is watching. 39 18 'Tempus Fugitive' James Bagdonas Jack Weinstein and Lee Hudson March 26, 1995 ( 1995-03-26) 21.3 The legendary author , arrives at the Daily Planet and wants to talk to Lois and Clark.
When they hear he is from the future, they believe he is crazy and try to ignore him but Wells gets Clark's attention when he tells him that he knows he is Superman. Wells leads Lois and Clark to his time machine to meet Tempus only to discover that Tempus likes this new world instead of his ideal one, Utopia, and decides that he wants to travel back in time to when Superman first arrived on Earth, to kill him. Tempus and Wells travel back in time but Wells changes the date to 1866 instead of 1966 to earn some time while at the same time he leaves behind the instructions of how to build the time machine. Superman builds the time machine and Lois and Clark get to 1966 where they realize that Tempus and Wells traveled to 1866 and they head there too.
In 1866, Tempus reveals the truth about Superman's true identity to Lois, before he travels with Wells to 1966, and Lois is furious with Clark for not telling her. Eventually, they all arrive in 1966 where Lois and Clark manage to stop Tempus killing an infant Superman and they make sure the Kents will find the baby.
Wells takes Tempus in Dystopia and returns to take Lois and Clark back to present but a few moments before his first arrival so they will not remember anything, including Lois not remembering that Clark is Superman. Lois writes it down before they travel but Clark finds it and takes it away before Lois reads her own note. 40 19 'Target: Jimmy Olsen!' Tony Blake and Paul Jackson April 2, 1995 ( 1995-04-02) 18.4 Jimmy's doctor, Dr. Golden , is murdered and Lois and Clark investigate to find out who killed him. Their investiagation leads them to discover about a project that started twenty years ago when a military doctor, Dr.
Wilder, injected three infants with a virus that would allow him to control their mind when they would get older; one of the kids being Jimmy. The plan was to turn these kids into assassins but when he was discovered, he was discharged. Wilder is dead but his wife, Claudette , and daughter, Dr. Katherine Wilder , try to complete his project.
They manage to activate the virus in all three kids and while the first one dies, Jimmy and Sarah , try to kill Lois and Clark while being under orders. Superman stops Jimmy before hurting Lois and Claudette and Katherine get arrested, while Jimmy and Sarah get to the hospital to remove the virus from their system. In the meantime, Lois tries to talk to Clark about her feelings but every time she does, Clark runs off because someone needs Superman.
Lois, who cannot understand his behavior, is frustrated and ends up accepting Scardino's proposal to go out for a date. 41 20 'Individual Responsibility' Alan J. Levi Chris Ruppenthal April 9, 1995 ( 1995-04-09) 15.7 The leader of Intergang Bill Church is retired and his son, Bill Church Jr. , takes over. Intergang wants to buy the Daily Planet but fails while at the same time they discover a new type of kryptonite that is red and not green. While trying to convince Perry to sell the newspaper, they try out the new kryptonite on Superman to see what effects has on him.
The results show that when Superman is exposed to it, he becomes apathetic and does not care about anything. Intergang takes advantage of this to kidnap Perry while Superman wonders why he is acting that way.
Lois sends him to Dr. Friskin , a psychotherapist, to help him out. Friskin believes that Superman needs vacations because of all the stress he puts on himself but during a session, the red kryptonite that Intergang put in her office is found by Superman and they realize that this is the reason for his behavior. Superman fights the effects the red kryptonite has on him and saves Perry while Church ends up in jail and Daily Planet reveals that he was the leader of Intergang. Lois and Clark take a second chance on dating with Clark promising he will not run off again. 42 21 'Whine, Whine, Whine' Michael W.
Watkins Kathy McCormick and John McNamara May 14, 1995 ( 1995-05-14) 17.1 Lois and Clark are out on a date but Clark has to leave once again to save someone leaving Lois alone. The musician he saves though, Calvin , sues him for breaking his arm having Superman start searching for lawyer while Lois is furious with Clark. Clark, not knowing what else to do, he decides that he cannot be two people anymore and wants to move away from Metropolis so Lois can be happy.
In the meanwhile, Lois discovers that Scardino is hiding things from her regarding his job and feels like he does not trust her. Lois is lost between three men - Clark, Superman and Scardino - and asks for help from Dr. Friskin who tells her that she knew all along who she really wants but she is afraid to admit it. While going to the court, Superman finds out that Bill Church Jr.
is free again but he can't do anything about it. During Superman's trial, Church attempts to kill everyone in the courtroom but Superman saves everyone by getting the bomb away. After that, Calvin's wife Elise (Michele Abrams), sick of Calvin's selfish and childish behavior, reveals the truth about him, and demands a divorce, leading Superman to win the case. Lois tells Superman that they can only be friends, Scardino that they can't see each other and heads to Clark's to express him her true feelings. The two of them kiss and start a romantic relationship. 43 22 'And the Answer Is.' Levi Tony Blake and Paul Jackson May 21, 1995 ( 1995-05-21) 20.0 Clark decides to tell Lois he is Superman when Jason Mayzik calls to inform him that he knows his real identity.
Mayzik has the diary of Tempus in his possession where it is described with details their journey back in time (Episode: Tempus Fugitive). Mayzik wants Clark to steal $20 million in diamonds in order to not reveal who he really is. Clark refuses to do it but when Mayzik kidnaps his parents, who are in town to celebrate their anniversary, and threatens to kill them, Clark has no choice other than do as he was told. It is revealed that Mayzik works with Nigel , Lex Luthor's former accomplice, who has kryptonite in his possession, and they plan to kill Superman after he brings them the diamonds. In the meantime, Lois follows Clark and witness him robbing the diamonds. In shock she confronts him and Clark tells her that his parents have been kidnapped.
Lois works with him to help him find his parents and their investigation leads them to Mayzik and his connection to Nigel. When Mayzik wants Superman to kill Lois, Lois comes up with a plan that involves Superman freezing her with her breath so she will look dead till he manages to save Clark's parents. Superman is not very willing to do it but he eventually does. Just before he does it, he touches Lois and that moment Lois realizes that Superman is Clark.
Superman delivers Lois' 'body' to Mayzik and Nigel and they, using the kryptonite, lock him up with his parents to die. Mayzik kills Nigel after he attempts to betray him, takes the diamonds and leaves. Superman and the Kents manage to escape and Superman unfreezes Lois while later on, he destroys the diary and takes Mayzik to the police. At the end of the episode, Clark did not get the chance to tell Lois he is Superman yet but he asks her to marry him.

As the show's title suggests, it focuses as much on the relationship between Clark Kent and Lois Lane as on the adventures of Clark's alter-ego. Perry dismisses him because he has no experience but when Clark comes back with the story about a theater being torn down that Lois rejected, Perry hires him. In the meantime, Lois wants to uncover a possible conspiracy behind a space ship launch that might blow-up and Perry gives her the story only if she teams up with Clark. Lois does not want to but not having a choice, she accepts.
The two of them try to talk to Dr. Samuel Platt but before they gather information, Platt is murdered and the murderer makes it look like a suicide. Lois and Clark also try to reach Dr.
Antoinette Baines but she claims that Dr. Platt is not to be trusted and that there is nothing wrong with the space ship. It is later revealed that Dr. Baines works with Luthor and they want to sabotage the launch in their benefit.
Lois does not believe what Dr. Baines told them and she goes back later to check on her own along with Jimmy. Baines captures them and ties them up while Clark comes searching for them. He wants to use his powers to save them but he cannot do it and Dr. Baines captures him too. Baines sets up an accident where the three of them will be killed but Clark releases himself and saves Lois and Jimmy. When they get out they witness Dr.
Baines' helicopter exploding killing her, while it is revealed that Luthor is the one who trapped the helicopter. Baines' death, everyone believes that the space ship is safe and they get ready to launch.
Lois sneaks inside the ship while Clark visits his parents frustrated that he cannot use his powers to help others. He asks Martha to make him a costume so he will be able to be himself and for people to not recognize him.
Clark, Martha and Jonathan watch live the launch but when they see that something is wrong, Clark flies back to Metropolis to help. He arrives as Superman and finds Lois inside the ship trying to disarm a bomb.
He takes the bomb and swallows it in front of a shocked Lois. After that, he helps with the ship launch and makes the news where everyone calls him Superman. Lois is excited with Superman while Superman visits Luthor to let him know that he knows who he really is and that he was behind everything. He vows to see Luthor face justice one day, while Luthor simply responds 'As they say, let the games begin.' Note: Two hour episode. 2 2 'Strange Visitor (From Another Planet)' September 26, 1993 ( 1993-09-26) 16.3 Jason Trask , a man who claims that he works for the government, bursts into Daily Planet and wants to interrogate Lois and Clark about Superman. During the interrogation, Trask does not find any of the information he wants and leaves.
Later, Perry finds out that the warrant Trask used was fake and Lois and Clark start to investigate about Trask. They reach a man who works for the government named George Thompson but Thompson denies that he knows anything about Trask. Lois follows him to a secret warehouse and when Thompson is found dead, Lois returns to the warehouse with Clark. They find out different alien objects that seem to be connected to Superman, including a spaceship and a ball that shines when Clark touches it. Trask finds them in the warehouse and captures them. He is determined to find and kill Superman and to do that, he uses them as bait by throwing them out of a plane.
Superman saves Lois, Trask tries to kill him but fails and then Trask disappears. Lois and Clark return to the warehouse with Perry and the police but the warehouse is now empty. 3 3 'Neverending Battle' Daniel Levine October 3, 1993 ( 1993-10-03) 16.4 Perry wants to know everything about Superman so the Daily Planet will have an exclusive story about him. Lois becomes obsessed with Superman and tries everything to be the one who will have the story. When she steals a story from Clark and later Jimmy's idea of how she can find Superman, Clark decides to teach her a lesson and sends her a misleading letter to where Superman's spaceship is.
In the meantime, Lex Luthor wants to know how strong and fast Superman is and he makes some tests for him. Clark puts the pieces together and goes to Luthor to tell him to stop those tests. When Luthor tells him that he cannot be at two places at the same time and as long as Superman is in Metropolis, people will be in danger. That makes Clark to not want to be Superman anymore but a conversation with Lois makes him change his mind and he brings Superman back. Meanwhile, Clark moves into his new apartment. 4 4 'I'm Looking Through You' Mark Sobel Deborah Joy LeVine October 10, 1993 ( 1993-10-10) 19.3 A scientist named Alan Morris invents a suit that makes him invisible. He uses the suit to steal from the rich and give to the poor as another modern.
When thieves steal his back up suits and start using them to rob gold from banks, Alan goes to Lois and Clark explaining his actions and asking for their help to find the criminals who stole his suits. Working together, they manage to stop the bank robbers and hand them over to the police. In the meantime, Clark feels overwhelmed by how the people of Metropolis welcome Superman and he even gets nightmares about it. People sell different items with his logo on them and the Mayor also gives him the key of the city. Even Lois behavior makes Clark feel invisible to her next to Superman and he does not know what to do and how to handle it. 5 5 'Requiem for a Super Hero' Randall Zisk Robert Killbrew October 17, 1993 ( 1993-10-17) 19.0 Lois and Clark cover a story about boxing fighters who seem to be stronger than an average normal human.
Lois meets a family friend, Allie Dinello , and asks for information but he declines to say anything. When later calls Lois and asks her to meet him, Lois gets there but Allie is murdered before he talks to her. Lois and Clark's investigation leads them to Lois' father, Dr. Sam Lane , who works in the sports medicine and to discover that the fighters are in reality cyborgs. Sam decides to help Lois when he finds out that his other partner Max (Matt Roe) is the one who killed Allie. In the meantime, it is revealed that Max works for Lex Luthor, who wants to build an 'army of Supermans'. Max kidnaps Lois and while Superman fights two cyborgs, Lex gets the opportunity to 'save her life' by killing Max, something that Lois appreciates.
Lois and Clark write the story revealing the truth about the fighters and what was really going on. 6 6 'I've Got a Crush on You' Gene Reynolds October 24, 1993 ( 1993-10-24) 17.4 A group of arsonists sets local nightclubs on fire and Lois decides to go undercover at a club to investigate what is going on. Clark follows her steps and gets a job at the club as a bartender, also undercover.
Johnny Taylor is the owner of the club but his sister Toni disagrees with the way he runs the organization and takes over after the club is attacked by the arsonists. Lex Luthor visits the club to meet with Toni and sees Lois singing on stage. Toni finds Lois and Clark hiding in the storage and Clark, to save at least his undercover, outs Lois. Lois loses her job at the club but she follows Toni and finds out that she is the one who is behind the arsonists. She asks them to stop now that she is running the club but the arsonists capture her and they keep their job. Superman manages to stop them while it is revealed that Lex also benefited from the arsonists as he was able to buy the land he wanted to build the 'Lex Harbor' at a low price. 7 7 'Smart Kids' Robert Singer Daniel Levine October 31, 1993 ( 1993-10-31) 17.6 Four children, who seem to be very smart for their age, escape from the orphanage and they take over the city by appearing on TV and controlling everything.
Back in the orphanage, a scientist named Dr. Carlton is looking for them. Lois and Clark try to find out where the kids are and why they are so smart. When one of them, Amy , goes back to orphanage to get her sister, she is captured and Lois becomes her temporary foster parent. Amy tells Lois about a portion that Dr. Carlton was giving them to make them smart but if you stop using it, you become dumb again. In the meantime, the rest of the kids find out that Clark is Superman but Clark manages to fool them that he is not.
Later it is revealed that Lex works with Carlton but when the two of them disagree, Lex gives Carlton the new portion that, instead of making you smarter, it burns your brain. Lois and Clark convince Amy that her friends are in danger and she leads them to their hideout. They manage to convince all the kids that being a normal kid is the right way to live their childhood until becoming an adult and they all return to the orphanage where they are safe again.
8 8 'The Green, Green Glow of Home' Bryce Zabel November 14, 1993 ( 1993-11-14) 15.2 Wayne , a neighbor of the Kents, finds a piece of a meteorite and sends a sample to the laboratory for examination. A week later, a government agency takes over his farm saying that they have to investigate about environmental violations. Wayne knows that they are looking for the meteorite and he gives it to Martha and Jonathan to hide it. Perry sends Lois and Clark to Smallville to investigate this EPA report. Jonathan shows Clark the meteorite and they find out that it affects Clark and makes him weak. While investigating, Lois and Clark realize that Wayne has disappeared and they know that something is wrong.
They get caught only to find out that Trask is behind everything and is looking for the meteorite to kill Superman. Trask kidnaps Clark's parents and threatens to kill them if Clark will not tell him where Superman is.
Clark admits that he is Superman but since he does not have his powers, Trask does not believe him. Clark gets his powers back and saves his parents. Trask sees it and he uses the meteorite to kill him but Clark manages to destroy it. The two of them fight and Trask gets killed by the Sheriff (Joleen Lutz). Lois writes the story and names the meteorite.
9 9 'The Man of Steel Bars' Robert Butler November 21, 1993 ( 1993-11-21) 18.6 A heat wave in the winter causes the citizens of Metropolis to blame Superman's powers for their troubles after some scientists theorize that his drawing on the sun's powers is what caused it. Superman promises at first to stop using his powers till things get cleaned up but when some people's lives are in danger, he breaks his promise and he gets arrested.
He later promises to leave town as all things seem to suggest that he is indeed the cause of the heat wave leaving Lois behind to discover the truth about what is going on. Lois manages to discover that a factory of Lex Luthor is behind the heat wave since it is emitting a lot of heat and asks Superman to return to town to help them stop it. Special Guest Star: as Mayor Frank Berkowitz. 10 10 'Pheromone, My Lovely' Deborah Joy LeVine November 28, 1993 ( 1993-11-28) 20.0 Lex Luthor cuts the funding of Miranda's research, a chemist who is in love with him and they were ex-lovers. To prove to Lex that he was wrong and her research is valid, she uses her new perfume formula and sprays the staff of the Daily Planet that includes a chemical that removes all the. Everyone in the Daily Planet start acting weird and crazy in love but Clark is not affected by the chemical. With Lois hitting on him, Clark tries to find out what caused this madness.
When the effect of the chemical wears off, Lois and Clark discover that the perfume Miranda sprayed them with contains specific pheromones which lead them to act the way they did. In the meantime, Miranda plans to spray the whole town with an advanced formula of the perfume that will cause permanent damage to people. Lex who believes Miranda will carry out her threat, asks Superman's help to stop her before it is too late. Superman manages to stop Miranda in time. 11 11 'Honeymoon in Metropolis' Daniel Levine December 12, 1993 ( 1993-12-12) 16.9 Lois decides to take a weekend off from work and books the honeymoon suite at a luxurious hotel to relax. While staying there, she witnesses Ian Harrington possibly making a dirty deal across the street about a top secret government project named 'Shock Wave' with Thaddeus Roarke.
She takes some photos of the men exchanging money and when she returns to Daily Planet she asks Perry to let her go back to investigate the subject. Perry agrees but decides to send both, Lois and Clark, undercover as a newly wed couple to stay at the suite and spy on the two men. Lois and Clark experience how it is like to live with someone else while at the same time they discover that Roarke plans to sabotage a weapon test of the navy endangering the lives of millions of people. Superman manages to stop the disaster and saves Metropolis. Roarke is arrested and Congressman Harrington claims to have set up the sting operation to put him behind bars. 12 12 'All Shook Up' Bryce Zabel and January 2, 1994 ( 1994-01-02) 18.9 An heads toward and the government asks for Superman's help to stop it. Superman flies into space and impacts with it making it smaller but the impact also causes him to.
He flies back to Earth but he does not remember who he is and that he is Superman. Lois tries to help Clark remember while everyone is looking for Superman not knowing if he survived the impact with the asteroid.
Martha and Jonathan also arrive in Metropolis and try to help Clark regain his memory so that he can become Superman again and stop the fragment of the asteroid that is still heading to Earth. After several attempts, Clark manages to remember and flies into space once again to stop the asteroid, this time fully succeeding, thus saving the Earth.
Note: This is a remake of a classic episode, '. 13 13 'Witness' Bradley Moore January 9, 1994 ( 1994-01-09) 19.1 Lois interviews an eccentric scientist, Vincent Winninger , and while at the interview she witnesses his murder and also learns about a conspiracy that will destroy the environment. When she publishes the story, Lois becomes a target for the people who murdered Winninger since they have to eliminate everyone who knows. Perry and Clark try to protect Lois from the killer while they all work together to find out who is behind the murder.
When they find out that the murderer is Sebastian Finn , aka Mr. Makeup, who can transform into anyone he wants, Lois is scared more than ever.
With the help of Superman, they manage to find Finn and arrest him, as well as Barbara Trevino , the women who asked Finn to kill Winninger and also tried to kill Lois after Finn's arrest. 14 14 'Illusions of Grandeur' Thania St. John January 23, 1994 ( 1994-01-23) 22.3 A kid named Nick (Jarrett Lennon) gets kidnapped and when his mother Rose reaches out to Lois and Clark for help, the two of them start to investigate all the recent kidnappings of children. The way Nick was kidnapped - through a magic box decorated with moons and stars - leads them to a magic club where they meet the Andre Novak. While they are trying to find clues to connect Novak to the kidnappings, Superman confronts the kidnapper himself during the exchange of money for Nick, but the kidnapper hypnotizes him into thinking that 'wrong is right' and Superman starts doing weird things everytime he hears the phrase 'moon and stars'. Eventually, Lois finds Nick and when Superman arrives for help, they discover that behind the kidnappings is Constance , the assistant of Darrin Romick , another magician who works with Novak. Constance not only is responsible for the kidnappings and for hypnotizing Superman, but she also hypnotized Romick into killing Novak.
Superman manages to fight the hypnosis, saves everyone and Constance gets arrested. 15 15 'The Ides of Metropolis' Deborah Joy LeVine February 6, 1994 ( 1994-02-06) 17.7 Lois follows a trial about a possible killer, Eugene Laderman , who she believes is innocent despite being convicted of killing Henry Harrison , the husband of Eugene's lover, Lena (Jennifer Savidge).
Eugene escapes and hides at Lois' apartment while Lois tries to prove his innocence. Lois and Clark's investigation leads them to discover that Lean is acting strange for someone who grieves her husband and lover's conviction while at the same time, a virus called 'The Ides of Metropolis' that Henry was working on, takes over all the computers of the country.
Eugene is the only one who can find the antidote to it and with the help of Superman, they manage to stop the virus before it is too late. While Superman and Eugene work for the antidote, Lois and Detective Reed find out that Henry is not dead and along with Lena are behind the virus. When everything is done, Reed arrests Henry and Lena.
In the meantime, Jonathan arrives at Clark's house after fighting with Martha because he believes that Martha is having an affair. 16 16 'The Foundling' Bill D'Elia Daniel Levine February 20, 1994 ( 1994-02-20) 19.2 Clark discovers that the globe he had found on his spaceship ( Strange Visitor (From Another Planet)) is a projector of messages from his biological father who tries to explain him, in five different messages, why he and his mother, Lara (Eliza Roberts), had to send him to Earth and find out the truth about Clark's heritage and his birth name is Kal-El. Clark only manages to see the first message before a teenage thief named Jack , found Clark's stuff in a garbage dump and then sells it to two strangers who are not other than Lex Luthor and his assistant and told him the globe has something do with Superman. Clark tries to find and take the globe back and manages to locate Jack with the help of a Lois' friend named Louie. While Lex Luther is seeing the messages on the globe, Clark is also seeing them, but from a different location. While trying to find out who bought the globe, Lois is upset with him because he lied to her about Superman's globe. At the end, Superman finds the globe but he is not able to find out who bought it, Clark learns that he wasn't abandoned by Jor-El and Lara.
He also learns that they're planet Krypton was being destroyed and it was too late save everyone on Krypton and themselves but one person they could save was Clark and he was saved by them when Kyrpton was destroyed, Clark helps Jack to get a job at Daily Planet and into a foster home and got Jack's brother Denny into a good foster home and Lois forgives Clark for lying to her since if she had found the globe she would do exactly what Clark did; hide it and not tell anyone about it. Learning that Superman arrived to Earth as an infant, Luthor realizes that his enemy then was found and raised somewhere in the United States, and thus has a secret identity. He is determined to discover it in hopes to make Superman and his loved ones' lives difficult.
First Appearance: as Jack. 17 17 'The Rival' Michael W. Watkins Tony Blake and Paul Jackson February 27, 1994 ( 1994-02-27) 19.8 An old rival of Lois, Linda King , arrives in town to work for Metropolis Star and Preston Carpenter and she seems to be getting all the giving her newspaper the exclusive titles. Lois is furious with Linda due to their history and her getting the scoops and hitting on Clark does not help the situation. This gets worse when Clark leaves the Daily Planet to be partnered with Linda and work for the Metropolis Star. The truth though is that Linda being at the right place at the right moment to get all the scoops made Clark suspicious and after talking to Perry they decided for him to work undercover at Metropolis Star. Lois finds out and now she works with Clark discovering that the accidents are not accidents and Preston is staging them so his newspaper has all the exclusives.
They talk to Linda who helps them find proof of what they claim and with Superman's help, Preston gets arrested. Cameo Appearance: as himself.
18 18 'Vatman' Randall Zisk Deborah Joy LeVine March 13, 1994 ( 1994-03-13) 19.7 Superman saves a crippled jet in Paris while Clark is at Daily Planet and watches the event on TV in shock. He has no idea who that new Superman is and tries to find him and talk to him but it is not easy. Clark wonders if he has a twin brother but in reality the new Superman is a that Lex Luthor created to kill Superman. Lois comes closer to the clone but being so close makes her realize that this guy is not the Superman she knows since he is acting weird.
Clark manages to talk to the clone and the only thing he can learn is that the clone believes that they are enemies and his 'father' told him to stay away from him. When Superman starts asking questions about the clone's childhood, it makes the clone start wondering if his 'father' has been lying to him. The clone asks Luthor about it but he is not getting any answers, only that he has to kill Superman the soonest as possible. The clone overhears that he is dying and that is why Luthor wants him to kill Superman sooner than they thought. The clone and Superman confront each other but the last moment, the clone confesses the truth to Superman without telling him though who created him. Before he dies, the clone gets the lock of hair that Luthor used to clone the real Superman and takes it to Superman to destroy it so no one can clone him again.
19 19 'Fly Hard' Philip Sgriccia Thania St. John March 27, 1994 ( 1994-03-27) 17.0 Clark, Perry, Jimmy and Jack are at the Daily Planet on a Saturday afternoon; Perry and Jimmy try to clean up Perry's office while Jack waits for Clark to finish a story and go to the cinema. Soon, Lois and Lex arrive because Lois wanted to make a last minute change to her article before they headed out.
All of them get trapped and are held as hostages when a group of criminals burst into the Daily Planet. While Jimmy manages to escape since the criminals did not see him and tries to get some help, the rest of the hostages try to understand what the criminals want. Clark finds it difficult to use his powers because he is afraid that he will reveal himself and also put everyone in danger.
With Lois' help they find out that the criminals are looking for the secret vault of Prohibition-era racketeer Dragonetti. The criminals have a secret boss who also gave them the information about the vault and it is revealed later that the secret boss is Willie he wasn't a killer or a monster and he didn't want to hurt anyone. The reason why he wants Dragonetti's vault is because Dragonetti framed him for a crime. The vault was to exonerate him of the charges and he made a deal with the criminals to find it. He didn't want anyone to get hurt and said 'no guns', being the security guard of the building. When the vault is found, the criminals turn against Willie as well and attempt to run away with it but Clark finds a way to use his powers without others noticing it and the criminals get arrested and Willie is cleared of charges. 20 20 'Barbarians at the Planet' James Bagdonas Daniel Levine and Deborah Joy LeVine May 1, 1994 ( 1994-05-01) 13.8 Lex proposes to Lois who is surprised and asks him some time to answer. Lex, to force Lois to accept his proposal, buys the Daily Planet to 'save' it from closing but things do not get better.
When Lex hires a young man named Chip to be Perry's boss, Perry leaves the newspaper. Later on, a planted bomb by Lex that seems to be detonated by Jack , destroys the newspaper completely and Jack ends up in jail as a scapegoat who was framed by Lex and Mrs Cox. Lex claims that is impossible to rebuild the newspaper and offers Lois a job on television which she accepts. Perry decides to retire while Clark and Jimmy have no jobs. In the meantime, Lois tells Clark about Lex's proposal, something that makes him furious especially since Lois is thinking about it and did not say no to him.
Clark, in an attempt to stop Lois from marrying Lex, confesses his love to her and tries to make her see that Lex is not who he seems to be. Lois tells him that she loves him too but as a friend and later on confesses her love to Superman. When Superman makes it clear that the two of them will never be together, Lois accepts Lex's proposal. 21 21 'The House of Luthor' Daniel Levine May 8, 1994 ( 1994-05-08) 17.0 Lois is preparing for her wedding to Lex while Clark, Perry, Jimmy and Jack (who broke out of prison) try to discover who is really behind the bombing of the Daily Planet.
All their clues lead them to Lex but they do not have any proof about it yet and they try to find everything they need to legally accuse him. But they found enough evidence to put Lex behind bars and Jack is cleared of charges.
In the meantime, Lex finds the last piece of kryptonite and manages to trap Superman in a cage while his wedding with Lois is about to start. Lois decides in the last minute that she can not marry Lex while Perry arrives with the police to stop the wedding and Lex to be arrested and so is Mrs Cox who is already arrested. Lex runs away but having no way to escape, he prefers to jump off of the highest building of Metropolis than going to jail, committing suicide. Superman, who managed to escape the kryptonited cage, tries to fly to save Lex but his powers are not back and he can not do it. Franklin Stern decides to rethink Perry's proposal to buy Daily Planet and rebuild it putting everything back in track. At the end of the episode, Lois is determined to confess her love to Clark but Clark talks first telling her that he was lying when he told her that he loves her more than just a friend and he only did it to stop her from marrying Lex.
